●       MeltyMarble fermented fat receives self-GRAS status, enabling US sales

●       Personal care lipid, Marble7, receives INCI name: r-Saccharomyces Butter

●       Key new hires propel Melt&Marble towards first commercial launches

Gothenburg, 11 March 2026 - Melt&Marble, the Swedish biotech company using precision fermentation to produce designer fats and oils in food and personal care, has accomplished two major regulatory milestones and strengthened its team in readiness for commercial success.

In food, the company has secured self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) status for its MeltyMarble fat, a designer lipid inspired by animal fats and built to deliver targeted functionality across a range of food applications. Unlike conventional plant fats, MeltyMarble is structured to optimise flavour delivery, melting behaviour, and creamy or juicy mouthfeel, enabling superior sensory performance in products ranging from alternative meat and dairy to chocolate confectionery, bakery, and snacks.

Following established procedures, Melt&Marble has determined that MeltyMarble is safe for human consumption based on extensive testing and quality controls. The Self-GRAS status enables sales in the US market, opening the door to deeper collaboration with US-based food manufacturers. Previously known as “MeatyMarble”, the ingredient was renamed to reflect its versatility beyond meat alternatives, including dairy, confectionery, and bakery applications.

At the same time, the Personal Care Products Council has approved the International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) name r-Saccharomyces Butter for Melt&Marble’s Marble7 personal care lipid. Marble7 is a soft solid fat that melts at skin temperature, enhancing formulation sensory performance while delivering bio-active fatty acids that provide targeted skin benefits. An INCI name is required for ingredients to be sold in the global personal care market.

“Securing INCI approval and completing the extensive evaluation required for self-affirmed GRAS are two defining milestones for us.” said Paulo Teixeira, Head of Product at Melt&Marble. “We’ve developed these ingredients following various safety and characterisation assessments. With these approvals, we are well positioned to bring our ingredients to market for use by food and personal care brands.”

Together, these achievements bring Melt&Marble closer to its goal of supplying high performance, sustainable fats and oils to the food and personal care markets that can replace ingredients derived from petrochemicals, animals and unsustainable plant sources.

With regulatory pathways now in place and customer engagement accelerating, Melt&Marble is strengthening its commercial and application leadership ahead of its first market launches. Juliana Mancini Gomiero joins as Head of Business Development (Personal Care), bringing more than 20 years’ experience in personal care marketing at companies such as Persán, L’Oréal and Natura & Co. Juliana will design and shape the Go-to-Market commercial and marketing strategy.

Meanwhile, Monika Malak, has assumed the role of Senior Product Application & QC Scientist (Personal Care). An expert in skin cell biology and holder of a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Gothenburg, Monika will lead application development and claims validation, developing showcase formulations and supporting customers with deep formulation and skin biology expertise.

Anastasia Krivoruchko, Melt&Marble’s Co-Founder and CEO, said: "These milestones represent a significant step forward for Melt&Marble and underscore the strong progress our team has made across product development, regulatory readiness, and scale-up. With these achievements and our recent hires, we’re well positioned to launch our first product in personal care this year, while continuing to advance our food focused pipeline. Together, these efforts bring us closer to achieving our mission of delivering better, more sustainable fats and oils to the market."

Melt&Marble’s ingredients are produced using cutting-edge precision fermentation, engineering yeast to create fats and oils with tailored properties for different applications that meet sustainability and technical requirements. These milestones follow Melt&Marble’s recent Series A funding and mark the company’s transition from platform development to first commercial launches across food and personal care.
